Word study is an important part of a balanced literacy program. Many of our students come to school recognizing words they see every day: environmental print or logos. What if you could combine logos with word sorts to study short vowels?
Logo Phonics Short Vowel Word Sorts are a great activity to use with your students to help review short vowel word families. Your students can use familiar logos and other environmental print to help them spell one- to two-syllable words.
Children recognize words from their favorite toys, food places, and stores. I wanted to use my students’ prior knowledge of familiar logos to help with recognizing and spelling words with short vowel phonograms.
You can use this activity with the entire class or as part of a learning center. Print out the task cards on card stock and laminate. The students can then record their sorts in their journal.
The package includes 30 total pages:
- Logo Phonics Short Vowels Task Cards (12 cards, 6 pages);
- Logo Phonics Short Vowels Task Card Journal (12 pages);
- Logo Phonics Short Vowels Power Point Presentations (12 slides with journal pages).
Have fun with my Logo Phonics Short Vowels Word Sorts!
