Poetry Month: Booger Love by Brod Bagert

I love this little booger, All shiny, green, and black, You can hold it for a minute, But I want my booger back….Brod Bagert, Giant Children

In honor of Poetry Month, I am posting a poem that I have enjoyed reading to my first grader lunch students during the last few years. In fact, a fifth grader recently said to me, ” Remember when you read ‘Booger Love‘ in first grade during lunch time?” I was one of the few teachers who as an upper-grade teacher, ventured into the first grade during lunch. I read this poem one day, and it became required reading as the children ate their lunch.

Poetry and Laughter

I was one of the few teachers who as an upper-grade teacher, ventured into the first grade during lunch (paid lunch duty). I read this poem one day, and it became required reading as the children ate their lunch. ‘Booger Love’ was gross and funny at the same time. It is was rare to find funny poetry for kids when I was a child. Now, that there were plenty of choices, my students only wanted to hear this one recited.

The highlight of my year was hearing one student read the poem to another student with the same tone and inflection that I used when reading the poem.

I am attaching a copy of the poem. However, you should get the book because it is one of many awesome poems. So, grab a copy of this awesome poem and share it with your students. It will be a memorable experience!
